A
very early sculpture (the sixth sculpture Ehlenberger ever made),
this work incorporates found objects from the artist's frequent forays
into the scrap metal yards of New Orleans. It was in these industrial
graveyards that Ehlenberger found many of the sculptural elements
that characterize his early work.
"Standard 612302" consists of multiple independently found
components serendipitously fitting together as if they were made for
co-assembly. In the center of the glass lens is a focal convexity
that magnifies a blue bubble blown into the otherwise all green neon
tube creating the focal point (figuratively and literally!) of the
sculpture.
