Ehlenberger was invited to participate in the Biennale Internazionale
Dell’Arte Contemporanea 2003 in Florence, Italy in December
of 2003. The exhibition was associated with the UN, part of a program
entitled "Dialogues between Civilizations" as the underlying
theme of the Florentine Biennale. The exhibition took place in the
recently renovated Fortezza
de Bassa, a medieval fort near downtown Florence.
Ehlenberger
was honored with a metal for 5th prize in the Sculpture category
for his installation entitled "A
Venusian Garden in Florence." The sculpture installation
incorporated four Jellyfish suspended over a Marsh Garden floor installation
comprised of multiple Venusian Swamp Flowers and other Venusian Swamp
Botanica.
Artists were selected by an International Committee for their innovative
work in the field of Contemporary Art. The Biennale presented over
800 artists working in many medias including painting, sculpture,
graphic art, installation art and photography.
An International Jury comprised of Dr. John T. Spike, art critic and
historian, Barbara Rose, Veronika Birke, David Rubin, Stefano Francolini,
Matty Roca, Teresa Ortega Coca and Dore Ashton, awarded the prizes
to nominated artists.
