This work was one of the artist's first figurative pieces. It was originally conceptualized as a piece celebrating the pregnancy of a close friend but was not completed until well after the delivery of a strapping young boy and hence was changed to reflect a flatter abdomen. Its spectral radiance reflects the joy of womanhood as well as motherhood.
